Penguins are flightless birds that are found on every continent of the Southern Hemisphere, from the sub-zero Antarctic to the tropical Galapagos Islands of Ecuador. There are thought to be 17 different species of penguin, of which the emperor penguin is the largest, reaching heights of over 1 metre, and the little penguin whose average height is just 33 centimetres.
