There are currently 42 recognised dolphin species, including 38 living in marine habitats and 4 that live in freshwater rivers. The largest dolphin species, the orca, can grow up to 9.8 metres and one of the smallest species, Hector’s dolphin, reaches lengths of just 1.6 metres.
